- Education tax credits. You can get a tax credit for up to worth up to $2,500 from The American Opportunity Tax Credit. - Dependents. In 2016 there is an exemption for $4,050 per dependent. You can also get up to $1,000 from the Child Tax Credit and up to $2,100 for two or more children.
